Kevin has been an actor, writer, director and producer in Chicago theatre for over 20 years. A founding member of Shanghai Low - serving as its Literary Manager - he has contributed to all the texts generated by the company, including his own charge: Sax Rohmer's THE INSIDIOUS DOCTOR FU MANCHU. Most recently Kevin appeared as Frank Hardy in Brian Friel’s FAITH HEALER with the Oak Park Festival Theatre. In the past year, he appeared as Michael in Friel’s DANCING AT LUGHNASA and Finbar in Conor McPherson’s THE WEIR, both with Seanachai Theatre Company (where he is an ensemble member) and played George in John Steinbeck’s OF MICE AND MEN, also with Festival Theatre.
In 1987, Kevin co-founded the CT20 Ensemble theatre company where he served as Artistic Director until 1997. During his tenure, CT20 produced Kevin's original script, MAKE UP (winner of the First Annual Bailiwick Director’s Festival) as well as Beckett's WAITING FOR GODOT, Lyle Kessler's ORPHANS (nominated for four Jeff Citations including Best Production) and his own critically lauded 1994 adaptation of Thomas Heywood’s THE FAIR MAID OF THE WEST, nominated for eight Jeff Citations, including Best Production, Best Ensemble and Best Director. FAIR MAID and Shanghai Low's THE SIGN OF THE FOUR, are both available through Dramatic Publishing.
In 1996, Kevin began his longtime association with the Seanachai Theatre Company, directing their productions of Helen Edmundson’s THE CLEARING, Mary Fengar Gail’s DRINK ME: THE STRANGE CASE OF ALICE TIMES THREE, and the world premiere of Ann Noble’s THE PAGANS - winner of the 1999 Jeff Award for Best New Work. He became a company member of Seanachai Theatre in 2000.
His direction of THE MANDRAKE in 2001 for greasy joan & co. was nominated for a Jeff that year, and he also wrote and directed the hit circus comedy THE BUMBLINNI BROTHERS SHOW and its two sequels for Circus Tortellini, which ran at the Actor’s Gymnasium from 2002/05. Other directing credits include extensive work with City Lit Theatre, Lifeline, Oak Park Theatre Festival, and Buffalo Theatre Ensemble. Productions include Wilde's THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, Moliere's TARTUFFE, City Lit's Jeff Award winning adaptation of P.G. Wodehouse's JEEVES AND THE MATING SEASON – plus adaptations of Arthur Conan Doyle's THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES, C.S. Lewis' THE SILVER CHAIR, and Kurt Vonnegut's THE SIRENS OF TITAN.
As an actor, Kevin has appeared in numerous productions at the Goodman Theatre, the Next Theatre, Peninsula Players, Buffalo Theatre Ensemble, Lifeline Theatre, Oak Park Festival Theatre, City Lit, Theatre Wit and Noble Fool. This coming summer, Kevin will direct William Shakespeare’s HENRY V for the Oak Park Festival Theatre.
